A: For welded wire reinforcement, the Wire Reinforcement Institute recommends steel placement 2 inches below the surface or within the upper third of the slab thickness, whichever is closer to the surface.

Q: Is it better to use rebar or wire mesh?

We prefer that the specified steel be provided at least every foot, however the bar spacing can vary within that foot.

Q: How do I calculate how much rebar I need?

A: To estimate the number of rebars for the length, divide the length of the pour by the chosen spacing. Similarly, for the width, divide the width of the pour by the spacing. Multiply the two results to get the total number of rebars required for the grid.

Q: How do I know my rebar size?
